The semiconductor landscape has shifted significantly over recent months. Availability for several key Intel processor families has tightened, driven largely by intense demand for AI-related infrastructure. This has created a ripple effect, particularly impacting embedded, IoT, and fanless system architectures.
Alongside CPU constraints, the broader component market, including RAM, SSD, and eMMC storage, is experiencing upward pricing trends and extended lead times. For some Intel SKUs, lead times are currently extending into 2028.
What this means in practice
These conditions require a shift in project planning. Relying on “just-in-time” procurement is currently high-risk. We advise partners and project managers to prioritize:
- Early Visibility: Aligning project timelines with current component availability.
- Design Flexibility: Evaluating platform-agnostic hardware options where possible.
- Proactive Forecasting: Securing supply chains well in advance of production milestones.
Current platform landscape

J6412 & x6413E
The J6412 remains one of the more accessible Intel options. We have secured limited fixed-price quantities; however, as demand increases, we recommend securing requirements for upcoming production cycles early. The x6413E is significantly more constrained. For projects utilizing this, we suggest evaluating platform alternatives (such as the x6416RE) or planning for extended lead times.

N97 & N150
These platforms remain stable but require longer lead times. They are currently the most practical drop-in alternatives for mid-2027 production windows.

Mini-ITX options
The LGA1700 Mini-ITX platforms offer access to a wider range of processors. While fanless, off-the-shelf versions may be limited, we are currently assisting clients with custom-designed housings and integration with existing HMIs to bypass supply bottlenecks.

ARM platforms
For projects where Linux or Android are viable, ARM-based platforms (Amlogic, Rockchip, Raspberry Pi) currently offer higher stability and availability. We are actively assisting with the porting and integration of these chipsets.
